Trevor’s NBA theme has continued to garner praise from basketball fans on and off the court. On line hoop forums as well as NBA players are finding this tune the subject of many a conversation. Turner Network Television's coverage of the National Basketball Association will continue to use the theme for the 2009-2010 season making it the longest theme used in NBA history. “I particularly enjoy writing themes for sports. So far I’ve not only done the NBA but I can count NASCAR and MLB to my credit as well.” Trevor’s instrumental piece "Titans Spirit" is a rousing seven-minute exploration of Remember the Titans energetic themes. It is used presently on many sports telecasts, particularly those on NBC, which has used the score during its closing credits montage for the last four Olympic Games (Salt Lake 2002, Athens 2004, Torino 2006 and Beijing 2008) as well as with the final closing credits montage for their 12-year run with the NBA in 2002. The song was also played as veteran New York Mets players crossed home plate during the closing ceremonies at Shea Stadium. You can now hear both in the music player. |

BMI saluted the composers of music featured in the past year’s top-grossing films at its annual Film & Television Awards. Held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel Trevor was among the honorees for his score, Get Smart marking his 11th BMI award. In addition to writing the score, Trevor created a rock rendition of the original Get Smart TV theme by Irving Szathmary. “My rock background was my inspiration for my arrangement of the theme,” he explained. In composing the score, Trevor primarily used a dramatic/action approach as opposed to a comedic approach. “I wanted the music to be the straight man. Also doing a comedy like this allowed me to utilize my jazz sensibilities.” Joining him at the gala event were his agent, Laura Engel and BMI’s Linda Livingston. You can check out the Get Smart score by clicking here. |

Another prominent figure in the world of music has passed away. Exuberant and uninhibited as a conductor, concert artist, adjudicator, master-class clinician and lecturer, Walter Mony was one of the most talented musicians in the field of classical music. On January 1, 2009 Walter Mony, died in Victoria, Canada at the age of 79. Walter recognized the emerging talent in Trevor and took him on as a private student in 1974. “As a composer and as a teacher Walter was concerned about making people conscious of the importance of music . . . and he always did it with warmth and humor. Walter encouraged me as a young composer to find my own voice, no matter the style. He taught me how to compose from the heart . . . and touched me as a serious musician, teacher and mentor.” Inspired by Walter, Trevor continued his pursuit of composition and orchestration. Mony went on to become one of South Africa’s seminal forces in the world of music. His repertoire encompassed the standard orchestral Symphonic and Concerto works, Operas and Operettas, Broadway and British musicals. A specialty of his, which has received critical acclaim, has been the premiere performances of contemporary, jazz and avant-garde works. |

Trevor has reunited with director, Jon Turteltaub, on his next project, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. This latest Disney live-action fantasy takes its cues from the classic Goethe and Paul Dukas-inspired Mickey Mouse portion of "Fantasia". Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the movie with Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel in the lead roles. The story centers on an average college student (Baruchel) who is reluctantly recruited to work for a sorcerer named Balthazar Blake (Cage). The man gives him a crash course in the art and science of magic to prepare him for a battle against the forces of darkness in modern Manhattan. Shooting starts soon in New York City for an expected late 2009 debut. |

The most celebrated white champion of the anti-apartheid movement, Helen Suzman, passed away on January 1, 2009. Born into white privilege in a society that was becoming progressively more racist, she served as a lawmaker in South Africa's parliament from 1953 to 1989, fighting government repression of the country's black majority and the imprisonment of Nelson Mandela and his fellow anti-apartheid fighters. For 13 years, from 1961 to 1974, it was a battle she fought alone as the sole anti-apartheid member of South Africa's parliament. |

A full house was bopping at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles as Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams performed on December 5, 2008. Armed only with a small array of acoustic guitars Adams was on stage for around two hours in total as he belted out some of his most well-known hits in a solo acoustic performance.
“I think for a lot of people that haven’t heard me do this before, it will be intriguing, because to play a song on acoustic guitar is quite a different thing than hearing it with a full band,” Adams said. “I believe that that will sort of give some insight into the songwriting.” The relaxed, personal format gave him plenty of time to tell stories and when he introduced the “Guardian Suite”, with Trevor to accompany him on piano, the fans responded enthusiastically. “Playing with Bryan is always fun. Plus with the intimacy of the Wiltern it all made for a special night.” |
